How to Choose a Cap

Cap buying guide

Find a shape that fits your routine

Compare the crown, peak and adjustment before choosing a colour or brand.

Pick a shape before a brand

A baseball or dad cap has a rounded crown and a front peak. A trucker style often combines a taller front panel with mesh at the back. A flat or newsboy cap has a different crown profile, while a visor leaves the crown open. Compare side and rear photographs as well as the front view.

Measure the fit

Check head circumference against the seller’s current size chart. Compare the crown depth and available adjustment range. One size, large and XXL describe a particular brand’s range rather than a universal fit. A fixed band and an adjustable closure require different size checks.

Plan for your hairstyle

A standard rear opening, a high ponytail opening and a criss-cross back can sit at different heights. Compare the position you need with photographs of the exact variant. For a cap with an open crown, check how the band sits around the head.

Compare the construction and care routine

A structured panel can preserve its silhouette, while a soft crown may pack differently. Check whether folding or rolling is explicitly permitted. Compare mesh panels, lining, fabric composition and the instructions for washing and drying.

Check protection claims separately

Our product guides reproduce a UPF claim only when it appears in the captured listing. Tanrub has not independently verified those claims. Confirm the current label and supporting information for the exact variant. For a broader comparison of hat shapes and official sun-coverage guidance, see How to Choose a Sun Hat.

Use reviews to answer a specific question

Look for feedback on fit, crown height, peak stiffness and closure comfort. Check which size and colour each reviewer used. Then compare the selected seller, pack quantity, delivery and returns before paying on Amazon.
