Tanning lotion and oil guides · Sun Bum · Browning Lotion · 250ml
Sun Bum Browning Lotion 250ml is a brown-tinted lotion marketed as a tanning accelerator. The original lotion covered here has no sunscreen. It is a different purchase from Sun Bum’s SPF 15 Browning Lotion, its spray tanning oil and a developing sunless self-tanner. Use the pack photos and comparison notes below to identify the version you intend to order.

Identify the original Browning Lotion
The manufacturer’s bottle has a brown body, yellow Sun Bum logo, wood-pattern cap and 250ml / 8.5 fl oz size marking. The product name is Browning Lotion. A matching brand name or brown bottle colour alone is not enough to identify the version.

Browning lotion, tanning oil or self-tan?
These names describe different product types. The original Browning Lotion is positioned for sun-triggered tanning; its brown tint does not make it a developing self-tanner. If you are looking for colour that develops without deliberate sun exposure, compare a gradual tanning milk or self-tanning foam instead.
For another lotion-format comparison, see Australian Gold Accelerator Lotion 250ml. If your preference is an oil format, the Reef Coconut Oil No SPF guide explains a different pack and application format. Compare the actual label and sun-protection status rather than treating every tanning product as interchangeable.
Sun protection is a separate decision
Its back label explicitly states that it does not contain sunscreen. Cancer Council Australia recommends broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF50 or SPF50+ sunscreen alongside clothing, a hat, shade and sunglasses. A browning product is not a reason to extend time in the sun.
Read Cancer Council’s SunSmart guidance when planning outdoor activities. Do not transfer the SPF or water-resistance claims of a different Sun Bum bottle to this original lotion.
Directions and fabric checks
Sun Bum’s original-lotion directions say to apply sunscreen first and wait ten minutes before the lotion. Follow the directions on your supplied pack and your sunscreen’s own application instructions. The brand warns that the brown tint can stain clothing and towels; allow the lotion to absorb before contact with fabrics.
Keep this handling point in mind if you will be wearing pale clothing or using light-coloured upholstery. Customer comments about staining can be useful, but they cannot guarantee that a particular fabric will wash clean. Read the back label before your first use.
Ingredients to check before ordering
The brand list includes coconut oil, aloe, coffee extracts, argan oil, kukui nut oil, macadamia oil and fragrance. Check the complete ingredient list on your own bottle, especially if you avoid particular plant oils or fragrances. Product names and promotional wording are not a substitute for reading that list.
Assess the current Amazon reviews
The live review link opens Amazon’s current feedback section. Check which version each customer purchased: feedback for a sunscreen lotion or an oil spray may not describe this original lotion. Look for specific comments about texture, scent, packaging and transfer to fabrics. Review dates and seller information also help put delivery-related comments in context.
